THE GREAT AWAKENING

THE GREAT AWAKENING
1 Corinthians 15:34

INTRODUCTION:
Paul deals with the disbelief in the church in Corinth.

This is a great chapter!

It is one the longest chapter in the NT.
It is one of the greatest chapters in NT.
It is one of the most important chapters in NT.
It is one of the most encouraging chapters in NT.

SEVERAL QUESTIONS RAISED IN THE CHAPTER ABOUT THE DEAD.

V1-19: Are the dead going to rise again?
V20-28: When are they going to rise again?
V29-58: How are they going to rise again?

IT IS AMAZING THING TO ME RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF THIS CHAPTER ON THE RESURRECTION THAT HE GIVES US ONE THE GREATEST MISSION VERSES IN THE BIBLE.

I have entitled it, “THE GREAT AWAKENING”

The Great Awakening was in 1740 to 1760.

In New England under the ministry of Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield.

I want to look at 3 things about this verse.
1-I SEE A DISTURBING STATEMENT
READ VERSE 34

To me that is very disturbing.

3 Reasons that this is a disturbing statement.
I-AWAKE This has to do with sobering up and thinking straight.

The church world is asleep when it comes to reaching the world with the gospel.

Romans 13:11-12
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. [12] The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

II-ALARM
It is alarming to me the 5 top religions in the world.
Hinduism
Judaism
Buddhism
Christianity (This is used loosely because Cat holism is thrown in with it.) Islam

This alarming.

III-APATHY

1-DISTURBING STATEMENT (v34)

2-I SEE A DELAYED SERVICE
SOME HAVE NOT THE KNOWLEDGE

I think there are some reasons why we have a delayed service and the world is not being reached.

I-Faith in the wrong place.

II-Finances in the wrong order.

III-Fervent prayer neglected.

Matthew 9:35-38
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
[36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. [37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
[38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
